Stroking the bottle

Sometimes a polish just doesn't quite pan out. It looks AMAZING in the bottle and then you put it on only to discover the sadness. The magic is still IN the bottle... stuck to the walls. The most recent victim of this tragic scenario was Pure Ice - Purple Reign.

Looks fine right? Sort of?!

But I want this magic! Why won't it translate to the nail?!

If the light hits it just right, I definitely get some sparkle, but nowhere near the magnificent display I see stuck to the bottle wall.

Don't get me wrong. It's a great polish. Actually, so great I wore it two times in a row ... well maybe that was because it chipped so easily it needed reapplication. Also, I just hadn't come to terms with the inevitable.

At the end of the day, this is one of those polishes I will pick up, stroke, and marvel at the beauty in the bottle. I will be glad I have it, but secretly hope it would do more with its life.

EDIT: OMG! Olivia went there... check out her comment below and then watch the video.

That's exactly how it will go, hahahaha.

  1. This happens too often with creme polishes with fine shimmer that stupidly clings to the bottle. it would be so awesome if someone could make it do the same thing on the nail

  2. So sad!! Such a pretty polish!

  3. I so hate when that happens! So pretty in the bottle but not so much on the nail. Have to admit, I was anticipating that you had a magic idea to fix this problem!

  4. You're right, it's a pity that the beautiful shimmer doesn't transfer on nails :-(

  5. So annoying when a polish doesn't live up to bottle promise. Still a pretty colour though...

  6. It's a shame it turned out this way. It's really a super gorgeous polish too! There's nothing more disappointing than encountering a shade of your dreams in the bottle and then having it flop on your nail :(

  7. Awwwww man! I have this color and was eyeing it recently since it has such gorgeous shimmer. Maybe if I bought one of those gigantor paint shaker things they have at home improvement stores? Or hiring a very muscular man to shake that baby for a few hours/days. Maybe strapping it to a runaway horse.....

My attempt at ridiculous polish humor fails. Although the paint shaker machine could be alot of fun. Ya know, before the possible explosion. ;)

  9. I saw a manicure on a blog using this polish and IMMEDIATELY HAD TO HAVE IT. It looked SO stunning - they somehow managed to get the magic out of the bottle! I ran to Walmart the next day but was heartbroken because their Pure Ice display is always a pure mess (no matter what store I go to) and I couldn't find it anywhere. Took me almost a month of searching.. so not worth the time, effort, and longing. What a let down this one was!

  10. As a fine-shimmer lover myself, I hate when that happens. After all, you spent your money to get the effect you saw in the bottle, not to stare at it like an idiot wondering where all the awesomeness went to or if for some reason you forgot to apply polish the proper way overnight.

  11. I had the same issue recently with the new Essences. Soooo pretty in the bottle, but only in super bright sunlight did even a bare hint of the gorgeous shimmer shine through. Ergh!!!! (*shakes fist at invisible shimmer*)

  17. OK, your title made me giggle...yes, I am bad...But as to the polish, I have drooled over that particular polish and have not bought it because SO many Pure Ice polishes have disappointed! Now I am glad I didn't give in to the lure of the shimmer....

  18. This very same polish also gave me the sads lol

  20. I'll just smile and stroke my two bottles of Color Club Wild at Heart, which is MORE amazing on the nail than in the bottle. I have it on right now and it makes my brain happy.;

  21. Solution. Get a cheap bottle of clear polish, pour out half. Start pouring some of the Purple Reign into it, add it slowly and swatch often until it looks like it does in the bottle only in your swatch. Enjoy. :)

  22. SO been there Anna! Bummer dude...it is awfully pretty in the bottle!! I hate when that happens :S

  23. Ugh, yeah I hate when that happens. Barry M Black Multi Glitter is exactly the same, stonking gorgeous in the bottle but falls totally flat on the nail :(

  24. I've had success with some polishes dabbing the last layer on with a cosmetic sponge before top coat to bring out hidden shimmer.

  26. Coz I'm crazy like that - I've sat a naughty bottle on the paint shaker at a hardware store before. They let me, since I'm a regular visitor. Not in, because the bottles are too small. But we figured out how to clip them on the top and it shakes 'em.

It does remix any indies that start to seperate the color out because they got way too cold.

It does not however remix glitter into suspension. And if it's stuck to the sides, nope. Boo hiss.
