Matte Moments

When it comes to mattifying my manicure I can be pretty resistive. I REALLY like it when my nails are shiny, but sometimes a girl likes change. When the mood strikes me, it helps to have a decent matte top coat to make everything look meticulous. I think I found a good one!

Before I even tell you what matte top coat I am using, can we please read the warning on the bottle?! Go read ... I'll wait...

I would be one pissed 7 year old.

When I first received this matte top coat by MASH, I only dipped one toe in the pool, so to speak, to test the waters. Actually quite literally my pinky is the only mattified finger here.

This was at least 3 coats of KleanColor - Fuschia Glitter

MASH matte top coat is only on the pinky; the rest of the fingers were probably Seche Vite.

Orly - Meet Me Under The Mistletoe

What a fantastic green!!! Gollie g.

Right?!

It is equally as awesome with matte top coat. Good job MASH!

Here is an equally fabulous green (see more here) made LESS FABULOUS...

Sinful - San Francisco

I don't know... it kind of takes the life out of it.

BUT in terms of matte top coat quality... it is superb.

I do like a nice matte cream on occasion. It makes me feel like I am wearing Illamasqua's rubber finish polishes. That dirty post can be found here.

This is Revlon - Rock with MASH matte top coat.

Look how smooth!!

How good is this matte top coat?

Battle of the top coats...

Seche Vite vs. MASH

.... uuuhhh, it's like apples and oranges people. They are both great.

Barielle vs. MASH

Barielle Matte-inee is the only other matte top coat I own.  This is Barielle Matte-inee over Lime Crime - Peaches <3 Cream

You may not be able to tell from the picture, but there were visible streaks in the finish. Sad face. This is probably why I don't use it much. I am not sure whether the problem is the brush (it's horrid!) or the formula, or a combination of both.

MASH matte top coat is like butter. The brush and formula worked like a charm EVERY time.

Can I just say how much I enjoy a mattified pastel!

More Lime Crime Pastels can be found here.

More manicures with MASH...

I decided to layer Orly - Royal Navy with a bunch of glitters and mattify them!

Bonus picture here!

Left to Right:

Pinky: Finger Paints - Asylum
Ring: Revlon - Galaxy
Middle: Revlon - Radiant
Index: Orly - Royal Navy shiny!
Thumb: Orly - Royal Navy matte!

I am completely convinced. Not only does MASH deliver a high quality matte finish, but the dry time was great too. What is your favorite matte top coat?

MASH matte top coat is $7.99 for 15mL (0.50 fl.oz.)

Stop me if you've heard this one...

I love sheer whites. I think I have said this probably 347 times on this blog. Here, here, here, here, here, here. So what's another post...

Essie - Marshmallow

I don't remember how many coats this was because this was from a while back. I would venture to say the standard 2-3 coats.

I do like to dress up my sheer whites on occasion. One of my favorite KleanColors is Cream Pearl. I have never worn it alone, but do like it over other colors. It has blue and purple sparkles.

I have shown it over a barbie pink in this post.

Very subtle and pretty.

I also have enjoyed NYX - Spotlight on top.

If you want to see NYX - Spotlight over a dark green check out this video... here. I put it over Nabi - Teal

I have a white cat. She gets jealous of my sheer white obsession.

She screwed up my mani last time I wore a sheer white.

Nail P0rn

Hey dudes.  I'm going on vacay with the fam.  It might be quiet for about 2 weeks.  I'll leave you with nail porn...

KleanColor - Midnight Queen

One of my absolute faves.
It is mainly blue, but has small pieces of purple.  It's magical.

Color Craze -Treasure Island
(BCC556)

This is a fine blue and green glitter. It takes 3-4 coats, but it's so worth it.

A generous gift from the lovely and beautiful Emily from Green Eyes Pink Nails

Catrice - Absolutely Chinchilly

Revlon - Scandalous
aka Facets of Fuchsia

KleanColor - Puppy Love

My nails look awfully plump here. Do. Not. Like.

China Glaze - High Maintenance

Like sex.

Oh yea, check my ovals!

Not gonna lie, I bought this for the name.

Essie - Poppie Cock

However, it should be called Poopie Cock, no?

Finger Polish Mania, do you approve ?

China Glaze - Sugar High

Sugar High can look pink or peach depending on the light.  You can see more of it's range in the video below...

Essie - Mucho Dinero

They look better oval when they're longer.

Want to make your nails oval? Read the post here, or watch the video below...

Pink Haters Look Away

I like pink, especially when it's on sale at Big Lots for a dollar a pop!

Revlon - Sweet Tart

Oooo, so shiny!

I can't remember how many coats this was, but normally I do ~2-3 coats with Revlon.

I enjoy Revlon formulas.  The finish on Sweet Tart was very smooth.

But how about I make it sparkly instead?

I am holding ...

KleanColor - Cream Pearl (111)

It's a nice way to jazz up any color.

Click on this picture to see the bottle in more detail.  Hopefully, you can see the blue and purple flecks in a clear base.

It's so great, but pretty hard to capture ... this is as good as it's going to get folks.

KleanColor is usually $1-2.  I found this one at a local discount beauty supply store, but have bought some of my other KleanColors at Beauty Joint

At least I know Ivana likes this mani! :)

Involuntary AB workout

Have you ever woken up in the morning and your ab's were sore, but you didn't remember why?

48 hours before ...

I was feeling super lazy one night, I mean to the point where I was starving hungry, but still had zero motivation.  Like the grown mature woman that I am I curled up in a ball in a small corner of my 500 sq. ft. apartment and started to whine.  The hubs finally noticed and came over to check what all the hub bub was about.  He picked up my my limp body and asked, "what's wrong with you"?  "I'm hungry, can you make me food?" I said in a slow slurred speech to of course emphasize my lifeless energy ridden body.

I guess I really must explain.  Part of my laziness was from the fact that I had no idea (or food for that matter) about what to make for dinner.  Earlier in the evening I even asked for advice in the matter.  I pleaded, "what should I eat?"  He made no attempt at a decent suggestion.  I often used to ask my mom this question when I was growing up.  Sometimes she would get so frustrated at my rejection in her food ideas that she would eventually explode and scream out, "what do you want from me, HERE (shoving her forearm in my face) take a bite of my arm already!", or something to that effect.  In my opinion, most every meal has to be something I really want to eat; otherwise, what's the point of eating?  I don't want to waste the calories on boring meals.  Anyway, back from that tangent ... all this lead up to my extreme behavior in the corner.

Of course like a good husband, he finally came up with a suggestion I had not thought of.  "Hey we have that polish sausage in the fridge!" Oooo, nice, I was totally excited, "can you fry that up for me?"  And so this was to be my dinner.  I know, WTF, right.  Well, then he made a second suggestion to accompany the sausage, "hey you want a peanut butter sandwich?"  hmmm interesting combo.  I mean totally off the wall; who eats sausage with a peanut butter jelly sandwich?!  Weird, but the sweetness of the jelly and the saltiness of the sausage sounded reasonable.

I scarfed down the deliciousness, but couldn't finish all the sausage, it was so damn greasy.  I went to bed thinking, 'damn that was one greasy polish sausage'.

You know sometimes you have those dreams that meld with reality?  Well I had a dream I kept waking up from my slumber because I was really nauseous.  Well in reality I finally woke up in the middle of the night not feeling so hot.  Ugh, I tried to ignore it and go back to sleep, but that shit was just not happening.  There is only one way to get rid of that feeling; visit my friend Ralph.

The old Russian standby on quick an easy regurgitation involves one simple ingredient ... warm water.  I will spare you the details, but I gulped down my fair share and several yakking sessions later, the yakking ceased and I was finally able to go to bed. Obviously the lack of sleep and bodily dysfunction meant there was no way I was going to work the next day.  I got to relax, let my body recover and of course paint my nails.

China Glaze - Rich and Famous
1 coat

Klean Color - Pink Holo 134
2 coats

In the sun and slightly blurry for your viewing pleasure.

Indirect sun.

Wearing these KleanColor Holo's makes me feel like I have acrylic on my nails.  They feel very thick and protected. I'm loving their thick jelly formula.

And so the very next day I woke up and my abs were sore and I eventually remembered it was the yakking session that gave me the impromptu ab workout. Thanks hubby for feeding me bad wiener!

I feel slightly old today

Happy Birthday to me!  I am very excited mainly because this weekend I will be shoving my face full of deliciousness.  My sister makes some killer cinnamon buns and I am crossing my fingers she'll read this in time, hint hint ;)

The MUA nail boards have inspired my b-day mani!

Hello sparkly goodness!

I love it so much. :D

I have to give thanks to the hubby for actually picking the final manicure.  Good job!

This is actually a layered manicure so here is what I used ...

Base: Nail Life Nail Revitalizer
(formaldehyde free)

This is a protein based treatment with moisturizers, you can learn more in this post.

After the base, I applied one coat of the slightly streaky mess that is China Glaze - Bahamian Escape.

Somehow I managed less streaks with my non-dominate hand ...

Then I applied one coat of KleanColor Blue Holo 135.

I applied a second coat of KleanColor Blue Holo and top coat.

This picture shows two coats of KleanColor Blue Holo on top of China Glaze - Bahamian Escape with topcoat.

The bottle shots are made even more lovely with my gargantuan hands!

Final Manicure:
Base: Nail Life Nail Revitalizer
Color: 1 coat China Glaze - Bahamian Escape
Color: 2 coats of KleanColor Blue Holo
Top: 1 coat Sally Hansen Clear
Top: 1 coat Poshe

Oh hello sun!

I love the KleanColor Holo's because they give me the sparkle of glitter without the roughness.

Have you tried the stinky-ness of Kleancolor?
