If your Walmart is jacked up

Sometimes it's hard to find special polishes when the stores in your neck of the woods are polluted ... ehm ... Walmart.

Take Pure Ice - Heart Breaker ...
Here pictured over Maybelline - Grey-T Glamour

Blue shimmer.

Green shimmer

Oh my!

If you have a tough time finding it, may I suggest an alternative?

NYC - Empire State Blue

Here over Revlon - Modern Grace

It also has the blue green shimmer!

The base, however is more opaque blue.

NYC - Empire State Blue over Revlon - Modern Grace

Considering NYC is easily obtainable in CVS, Rite Aid and alike ~ $1-2... it's time to hoard.

  1. What is is with WalMart? There are two in my lovely small "city" (note the sarcasm in my voice when I say "lovely") and both are jacked up. Can't find a damned thing in either one. Gah!

Maybe I'll see about finding the NYC, instead.

  4. Another reason why I don't do drugstore polish! So much easier to just order online with so much less drama! I must confess I do own heartbreaker and really want busted but haven't found it yet!

  5. I think you mean "if you shop at Wal-Mart, the nail polish will be jacked up" because I have never been in a clean Wal-Mart, even if it's a brand new store.

BUT... I do love both of those colors. I managed to find Heart Breaker after a little digging.

  13. Interesting! I've had Empire State Blue for a while but it's untried (like the other 2/3 of my stash). I have to say I like it better than Heartbreaker!

  14. Awesome post, thanks for the alternate. I will definitely look for the NYC. I am a nail "newbie" and have a question not related to this post. What do you mean when you talk about wrapping tips? The only time I've ever heard of wrapping is with that silk strand paint-on stuff...that's not what you are talking about is it? I am using Seche Vite fast dry and have the problems with tip wear that you've talked about on other posts. Using Seche fast dry has been a game changer for me...before using it I never did my nails with color because it always, always, ALWAYS got smudged no matter how long I waited. I wasn't sure if it was the base coat I am using (Seche Natural) or the topcoat. Any advice? Thank you so much for all the great advice on your blog, my nails look so much better just from all the moisture/creams I've been using that I've had my first compliment ever on my nails. Now I am seriously addicted ; )

    1. Since no one else answered you, I will :) "Wrapping your tips" simply means bringing the polish you are using up over the free edge of your nail, so as to coat the tips with polish. You just kind of swipe the brush across the edge of your nail with polish. It helps prevent chipping and tip wear a bit longer. Hope that helps. :)

  15. Saw a Pure Ice display at Walgreens last time I was there. Hopefully, Walmart's exclusive hold is broken.

And another amazing one called Oh Baby...so screwed! Thought of you Loodie when I saw them, lol! Wanted to buy all so I could share (sick mind, I know!)

  22. Okay, I really need to get my nails in good condition and grow them back out so that I can use the NYC/Revlon combo. In the meantime, I may buy them for incentive. :D

  23. I have looked at that NYC color before and put it back for fear of it being frosty. Now I know I'll have to grab it next time! Wonder if it looks as gorgeous without the grey underneath....
