Why Revlon Why?!

Things happen.  I understand.  I will let this one slide ...

I've bought Revlon Royal several times.  Simply put, it is amazing <--- the most overused word out there I know, but my vocabulary is small, so ... it's AMAZING ... capitalization give it more pizazz right?

Revlon - Royal
2 coats ... no topcoat

The HORROR ...

What in the Sam Hill?!  All of the goodness sank to the bottom.

The good bottle is on the bottom.

Oh, but I couldn't just leave it at that.  I had to explore.

Oh hi there pigment.  You got lost from the suspension.  Let me reintroduce you.

Shaking did not work, so I had to poke it, then mix it up.  Unfortunately, after a while it begins to settle again.  I have since seen another bottle like this in the store.  This must be an "off" lot that is lacking in the ingredient needed to keep the pigment in suspension.  On the bright side, my forearms are guaranteed a workout with each use.

The final mani ended up being ...

Revlon - Royal (2 coats) topped with Revlon - Radiant.

Revlon - Radiant also goes by the name of Mosaic.

Revlon - Radiant/Mosaic is pretty nice.

Basically, anything over Royal turns to magic ... and I like magic.

Are you a fan of Revlon - Royal?  Have you had issues with your bottle?

    1. Nah, definitely not a coincidence. I think at this point it's ... a problem.

  8. I have seen bottles of polish (not royal) do the same but the dark color is at the top instead. Is the same thing happening to those polishes as your revlon royal?

  9. Thanks for the heads up. I'm going to check my bottle now. It's so annoying when they don't put in enough shaker balls.

    1. They were there, but it seemed like the pigment was so densely packed at the bottom that no amount of balls could uh, ya know, stimulate the color back into the formula. lol

  10. I am a huge fan of Royal and my bottle is just fine. I am going to get a backup, tho so I will keep an eye out for fonky bottles.

Golly, that Royal/Mosaic mani is amazeballs.

Your nails look *great* though. :)

  12. So many people are swatching this lately and I've read mixed reviews. I bought this a while ago and have used it often. My bottle is fine even after all this time. I love this polish and I love Revlon. Looks great on you! I can only guess that they had a few bad batches go out. Sucks because it really is AMAZING! lol

  14. Love the combo. The pigment sinking has never happened to me. I do find a thin layer of a transparent liquid on top of the polishes I haven't used in a while, and If I mix it everything gets back to normal

    1. Yes, I know exactly what you are talking about. I call it neglected polish syndrom. Like you said, a little love and shake will fix it right up! :D

  15. oops... That looks like my first franken. I just dumped pigment in clear polish and shook.

    I love your combo!

    1. This picture is actually from probably a month ago (at least), but it's true I went back to squovalish. I know I know. My brain could not adjust. I did a few mani's and I admit ... I can't hang with oval on my nails... mental problem. *whispers ... I too like the square with rounded edges better ;)*

  17. I have one bottle and it's not like this at all, it's been amazing blue goodness every time, but I did read that it happened to Cris at Letthemhavepolish. She had to get a different bottle too. Weird. I really want a backup but I'm afraid to get a bad bottle :(

  18. Ha - my grandma used to ask "what in the Sam Hill?" all the time, but it usually related to what her naughty dachshund was doing!

  21. NICE! I love the deep rich color, but I think I might be a bit too old to do blue... I just bought a bottle of OPI's "Vampsterdam" yesterday. It's a deep royal purple. LOVE it! Anyone tried that one yet? I have a function this Saturday, so I'll be 'Vampin' it!!!!

    1. Vampsterdam is gorgeous and I love the name. Today's the day, I hope you are a hot and sexy vampie! ;)

    2. I think of myself more like a "Hot Sexy Gramie!"

  22. PS: In photo 4, the one where you are holding both bottles, the index and ring fingers look like you did a gradient on them. I am going to give that a try with my OPI "Vampsterdam" and Sinful Colors "Smoking Hot" If I could get a profile pic to show up, I'd show the finished results, but apparently, I am 'challenged' in that area... I'll keep working on that.

    1. (AHH! There it is! I guess I'm not as challenged as I thought!)
I tried to do the gradient thing... didn't work. I have never seen it being done, only the finished result, so don't know the technique. I did do my 'Vampsterdam' mani last night. I used 2 coats, but still see streaks. I'll have to add another. I do love that color!

    2. OOo nice, unintentional nail art! :D

Many people use a sponge to do the gradient manies. You could try that. There are numerous videos on youtube.

    3. I did find a few Youtube videos. I will give the sponge technique a try. (I have some under my bathroom sink that are probably older than you!!) Thanks for all your great info, and the smiles you give. I love your personality!!!

  23. So weird! I just read about another bad bottle over on Let Them Have Polish-- http://www.letthemhavepolish.com/2012/02/revlon-royal-redemption.html

I'm going to have to check in on my bottle to make sure it hasn't gotten gunky!

  24. Speed-dry polishes (color ones) and I simply don't get along, so I don't buy them any more, lol! I have heard of other people having problems with this particular polish. That is a gorgeous blue, though and a great color combo...makes me want it lol

  25. Normally I don't do drugstore brands- I stick my nose up at them and am a confirmed polish snob! However, I have seen so many swatches of this royal that I actually bought one on Wednesday. I just had to check the bottle to see if it was separating like you show here! Luckily, it isn't. Now I just hope it applies ok as I have seen others get bad bottles! This is why I stay away from the drugstore brands! Love your nails as always!

    1. Aww, but drugstore polish is awesome.

It takes many months of convinceing that I need a $15+ polish. If only I could describe the inner turmoil I go through.

Cheap thrills, yes I will take many, over and over, again and again. I guess I'm just a frugle whoe. :P

  26. Anna, baby....the combo at the end is KILLER! seriously, it looks like a cross between Deborah Lippmann's 'Across the Universe' and 'Lady Sings the Blues'. It looks aquatic and you know how we Cancerians feel about water, right? Too bad about the divorce between the pigment and the rest of the ingredients, but maybe they were never meant to be together, am I right?! Plenty of other bottles out there for us to play with!
